Barriers to Communication

Introduction

What a is barrier
A barrier is something that is stopping you from hearing a message and prevents you from understanding a message.

· prevents a message being heard
· prevents a message being understood.

General Communication Barriers

Use of Technology -

The use of Technology is a very good example because there are so many problems that could occur for example the internet could be cut off or the internet supplier has problems and this prevents you from sending emails and communicating with work related stuff. Another barrier would be if you are trying to Skype a friend and they don’t know how to use the Computer they are trying to Skype you with.
The common problems in users having problems in communicating via the use of technology may be the user’s lack of knowledge on how to use the computer e.g. not knowing how to switch on the PC, log-in etc. all of these factors affect communication which may also be considered as a barrier to communication.
The audience might not be familiar with the technology and can not use it at al is another manger problems but it is improving. for example everyone in an organization has to communicate will other employees and there boss for work related. People do be podcasting, blogging, instant messaging and using Skype a lot.

Interpersonal Communication Barriers

Background Noise -
Background noise is noise coming from outside the building, loud voice in the office or a telephone ringing. Background noise can affect how you are able to communicate with someone face to face. If there is noise in the background whenever you are trying to communicate with someone, you may become distracted and forget what you are talking about. Always is very distracting from work you are doing because you can’t get the full consideration that is needed and it will hold you up from you work as well. It is big barrier when trying to complete something or even commutating because you could not hear someone that is beside you or on the phone.  There is lots of ways you could try and solve this problem for example hold meeting in an other room, close office doors and windows and use instant messaging instead off loud conversations.

Written Communication Barriers

Document contains spelling and grammar errors -

If your document contains Spelling and Grammar errors then the document will look bad to others if they try to read it. If you are trying to communicate with someone and they see bad spelling mistakes in an email for example they are goanna either stop reading it or pay less attention to it and think you either rushed the email or else you just cant spell correctly.
One of the most obvious is your spelling and grammar. Not only will a poorly spelt document be harder to read but the reader might think less of you for using poor spelling or grammar. This can easily be overcome by spell checking your document and proof reading it before sending
Its is very important in every organization because every employer will want to see good spelling and grammar because it’s a bad sign if you cant spell good and your sentences don’t make sense.
